Sour Diesel: The Story Behind the Painting
Sour Diesel is the one people point at first. She is loud on the wall, she is loud on the back of a hoodie, and she was loud in the studio when I painted her in February 2022. So here is the story behind the painting, and then the pieces she ended up on.
Why I painted her
The short version is the line I wrote on her page: because she's loud and proud. Sour Diesel is a sativa, and her lineage is said to include Chemdawg 91 and Super Skunk. Her page also says she has an unmistakable fuel nose, which is about all you need to know about the name. When I looked at the mature flower, everything about her was turned up. The orange hairs go every which way. The frost sits thick on the leaves and on every little calyx. The leaf tips lean purple. She looked like a flower that wanted to be noticed, so I painted her that way.

The navy background
She sits on a dark navy background. On navy, the orange hairs stand out like little sparks and the white frost looks like it has a light behind it. The green fan leaves still read as green instead of sinking into black. That is what I mean by loud. She fills the canvas, top to bottom, and she does not leave much room for anything else. That felt right for her.
How every Canna Queen gets painted
Every one of my paintings is the mature female flower of a named strain, 24 x 30 acrylic on canvas. I paint the whole flower: the fan leaves, the hairs and the frost, so the detail holds up when you stand close. The Sour Diesel original is UV sealed, signed and stamped, and it is still available. Shipping is included with the price. There is only one of her, so once she is gone, the prints are how she lives on.
The poster
The Sour Diesel poster is the painting printed on thick matte paper, 10.3 mil, sourced from Japan. It comes as an 18x24 with no frame or in a black, red oak or white frame, and as an 8x10 for a shelf or a desk. Every framed print in our house is in a black frame, and navy and black look like they were made for each other. If your walls are white or the room has a lot of wood, look at the red oak. The white frame is the one that makes the navy pop hardest.
The 8x10 is the same print, just small enough to lean on a desk or a bookshelf. It comes unframed, and a standard 8x10 frame from any store fits it.

The hoodie
The Sour Diesel hoodie puts the whole painting on the back. It comes in carbon grey or white. I wear mine when it finally gets cold here in Florida, which does not happen often, so it stays looking new. The face is 100% cotton, it runs true to size, and if you like a baggy fit go one size up. Sizes run S to 3XL and the size chart is on the page.

Everything Sour Diesel
All of her pieces live on the Sour Diesel page: the original, the poster, the hoodie and the rest. If she is not your strain, the shop by strain page has all of the Canna Queens with a short note on each. Everything except the original is made when you order it. Production takes 3 to 7 days and US delivery is another 3 to 7 business days, so give it about two weeks.
